Want to build software that protects organizations from sophisticated email attacks? Abnormal AI is hiring a Software Engineer 1 for its Message Security Products (MSP) team in Bengaluru, with early ownership and strong senior support.
Role Overview
- Role: Software Engineer 1
- Team: Message Security Products (MSP)
- Location: Bengaluru, India (Hybrid)
- Experience: About 2 years of professional software engineering experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
You will ship features across the stack, mostly backend services and APIs plus some UI work, and own projects from requirements to production.
Responsibilities
- Build and ship backend services, APIs and some customer-facing and internal UI.
- Own projects end to end: clarify requirements, break down work, code and validate in test and production.
- Build data and state handling, including scheduled and background jobs that pull data from the core email security platform.
- Keep shipped work reliable: fix bugs, address bottlenecks, add tests and monitoring, and help debug production issues.
- Work with Product, security, customer-facing and other engineering teams.
- Use AI tools across the development loop and validate their output to a high standard.
- Document work through runbooks, code reviews and write-ups.
Requirements
- About 2 years of professional experience and a relevant Bachelor's degree.
- Full-stack experience with a clear backend focus (at least one UI and one backend project).
- Backend development in Python and/or Go, including REST API design.
- Working knowledge of relational databases.
- Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP or Azure, plus Docker, with exposure to Kubernetes.
- Solid CS fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, distributed systems basics, clean testable code.
- Awareness of observability and reliability (logging, metrics, alerting).
- Fluency with AI dev tools such as Cursor, Copilot and Claude.
- Initiative, such as building an internal tool or automation unprompted.
Nice to have: workflow orchestration (Airflow, Temporal), messaging/queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, SNS), and a frontend framework such as React.
Note: this is a core backend/frontend role, not an AI agent or ML position.
Perks
- Early-stage ownership with senior engineer support.
- Real scaling problems, including large-volume data collection.
- AI-native R&D organization with investment in tools and training.
- Defined growth path toward SWE 2 and beyond.
- Eligibility for equity, annual bonus and benefits on top of base salary (no range listed).
