About the role

ABOUT T-MOBILE:

America's Un-carrier:

T-Mobile US, Inc. (NASDAQ: TMUS), headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, is America's supercharged Un-carrier, connecting millions of customers through its nationwide network and flagship brands T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile. TMUS Global Solutions is the technology powerhouse accelerating its digital transformation at scale.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

  • Own the Architecture of Customer Truth
  • The Data Architect, CDP owns the end-to-end architecture of T-Mobile's Customer Data Platform the system of record for 100M+ customer profiles, now moving to Google Cloud to deliver real-time customer context, near-real-time signals, and sub-50ms API access. Any agent, store associate, or digital channel should see a customer's prior conversation and continue from there.
  • You will architect how clickstream, care, store, and network data flows into Cloud Spanner (low-latency store), BigQuery (analytics), and a knowledge graph exposed via GraphQL and MCP servers while leading coexistence with the Azure estate (Databricks, Snowflake, Data Factory, Event Hubs, Cosmos DB) to reuse proven ETL.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

What You'll Do:

Platform Architecture & Real-Time Customer Context:

  • Own the end-to-end CDP architecture across Spanner, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Dataflow, and the Azure lakehouse; define what lives in Spanner (current state), BigQuery (history), and the lakehouse
  • Design the unified customer profile and interaction-context model and own Spanner as the low-latency system of record (keys, hotspots, multi-region, change streams, DR) at sub-50ms reads

Streaming, Clickstream & Pipeline Architecture:

  • Design NRT ingestion with Pub/Sub and Dataflow (Beam) into Spanner and BigQuery, with data contracts, schema evolution, exactly-once semantics, and replay patterns
  • Codify reusable CDC, SCD Type 2, and late-arriving-data patterns; partner with NBA and T-Engage to cut signal latency to sub-five minutes

Hybrid-Cloud Migration:

  • Architect Azure-to-GCP data movement with STS and BigQuerySpanner sync to reuse existing Databricks, Data Factory, and Snowflake ETL; lead the phased plan to migrate or retire Cosmos DB, Redis, Event Hubs, and Functions with dual-run and rollback criteria

Knowledge Graph, GraphQL & MCP:

  • Architect the customer knowledge graph on Spanner (ontology, identity resolution, Customer 360), the sub-50ms GraphQL API, and secure MCP servers on Cloud Run for AI agent access to CDP data

Governance, Operations & Technical Leadership:

  • Define data quality, lineage, and access standards (Dataplex, Unity Catalog, TISS-310), IAM/VPC-SC/CMEK controls, and standards for compute (Cloud Run, Dataproc, Dataflow, Composer), SLOs, FinOps, Terraform, and CI/CD
  • Serve as architectural authority lead design reviews, maintain the runbook and ADRs, mentor engineers, and partner with product, analytics, and AI/ML teams

  • Cloud Spanner (2+ years):Schema and primary key design, interleaving, indexes, hotspot avoidance, change streams, and multi-region capacity planning.
  • BigQuery (3+ years):Partitioning and clustering, reservations and cost control, Spanner federation, and BigQuery-to-Spanner (reverse ETL) data movement.
  • Streaming & NRT pipelines (3+ years):Pub/Sub, Dataflow (Beam), Kafka, Event Hubs, or Spark Structured Streaming with exactly-once semantics, watermarking, and clickstream ingestion at scale.
  • APIs & low-latency serving (3+ years):Designing REST/gRPC services, including 2+ years with GraphQL (schema design, federation, caching) against p99 targets under 50ms.
  • Graph & identity resolution (2+ years):Knowledge-graph or property-graph modeling (Spanner Graph, Neo4j, or Cosmos DB), ontology design, and entity/identity resolution for Customer 360.
  • AI & MCP integration (1+ year):Building or securing MCP servers, LLM/agent tool integrations, or Vertex AI-based data access patterns.
