About the role

Software Engineer III – Equities Structured Products Technology

About the Opportunity

Battle Tested Placement is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to serve as the hands-on Technical Lead for an Equities Structured Products Secondary Markets platform.

This role combines Java/Spring development, architecture ownership, and technical leadership for a critical front-office platform supporting Structured Notes within Equity Derivatives. You will help stabilize and modernize existing systems while delivering capabilities that support business growth, secondary market making, trade execution, and product lifecycle management.

Working directly with Traders, Structurers, Operations, Risk, and technology partners, you will translate complex business requirements into scalable, reliable solutions.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the technology stack supporting Structured Notes secondary market activity, including market making, trade execution, lifecycle workflows, and external vendor connectivity.
  • Lead technical direction and engineering delivery while remaining an active, hands-on developer.
  • Design, develop, and enhance Java/Spring applications and distributed systems that support real-time front-office workflows.
  • Make architectural decisions, establish engineering standards, and build maintainable solutions with integration, testing, performance, and resilience considered from the outset.
  • Execute milestones within a multi-year technology roadmap aligned with the Structured Notes growth strategy.
  • Partner with Trading and Structuring to define requirements, assess priorities, and deliver capabilities that support increasing transaction volumes and product complexity.
  • Improve production stability, availability, recovery capabilities, and overall operational resilience.
  • Modernize legacy components, simplify architecture, reduce technical debt, and automate manual processes.
  • Strengthen integration across Trading, Operations, Risk, external vendors, and supporting technology platforms.
  • Lead requirements refinement, work estimation, technical planning, and delivery through the full software development lifecycle.
  • Develop unit tests and automated integration, regression, and performance tests.
  • Improve continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and automate release activities.
  • Conduct code reviews, mentor engineers, and guide development teams in sound engineering practices.
  • Use proofs of concept to evaluate solutions and address technical uncertainty.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of technology experience supporting capital markets, derivatives, or structured products platforms.
  • Strong hands-on Java development experience and proficiency with the Spring Framework.
  • Experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems and real-time front-office trading platforms.
  • Strong understanding of Equity Derivatives and Structured Notes, including pricing concepts, Greeks and risk measures, lifecycle events, and secondary market dynamics.
  • Understanding of market-making and trade execution workflows.
  • Experience working directly with Traders, Structurers, and front-office business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ownership of complex production systems, including reliability, production support, and ongoing improvement.
  • Experience making architectural decisions and defining development standards.
  • Proven ability to lead complex initiatives, set technical direction, guide development teams, and mentor engineers.
  • Experience modernizing platforms through automation, architectural simplification, and technical debt reduction.
  • Strong knowledge of software design patterns, automated testing, and full lifecycle delivery practices.
  • Ability to deliver in fast-paced environments where requirements and solutions may initially be unclear.
  • Strong communication, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with Structured Notes secondary market platforms.
  • Experience integrating front-office systems with Operations, Risk, and external vendors.
  • Additional development experience with Python or C#.
  • Experience delivering large-scale modernization initiatives within a global financial services organization.
  • Ability to connect technical decisions to trading needs, operational performance, and business growth.
  • Demonstrated success influencing senior stakeholders and driving change across teams.

What Success Looks Like in the First 90–120 Days

  • Advance the strategic roadmap: Deliver agreed milestones and improve delivery predictability for priority Structured Notes initiatives.
  • Strengthen platform reliability: Establish performance and incident baselines, address priority stability issues, and demonstrate measurable improvements in availability or recovery.
  • Support secondary market growth: Deliver prioritized capabilities that improve market-making, trade execution, or support for greater product complexity and issuance volumes.
  • Improve time-to-market: Reduce friction in development, testing, and deployment through targeted process improvements and automation.
