About the role
I’m partnering with an established investment platform that is looking to add a commercially minded professional to its private equity team in New York.
The position is focused on building a pipeline of potential investments in privately held U.S. businesses. You’ll spend much of your time identifying attractive companies, engaging directly with founders and owners, and developing relationships that can ultimately lead to investment opportunities.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Research and identify privately held businesses that fit the team’s investment strategy.
• Generate new opportunities through direct outreach, market mapping, referrals, and relationship development.
• Engage founders and business owners through phone, email, LinkedIn, and other sourcing channels.
• Build long-term relationships with prospective sellers, executives, advisors, and other market participants.
• Develop new approaches to identifying companies before they enter a formal sale process.
• Evaluate potential opportunities at an initial level and work closely with the investment team to determine where to focus resources.
• Maintain an active pipeline and provide market intelligence on companies, industries, and potential acquisition opportunities.
What We’re Looking For
• 3–8 years of relevant professional experience.
• Background in private equity sourcing, investment origination, business development, expert networks, or another highly relationship-driven environment.
• Experience conducting proactive outbound outreach and developing relationships from a cold introduction.
• Ability to communicate naturally and credibly with founders, executives, and business owners.
• Strong commercial judgment, curiosity, and an interest in understanding how privately held businesses operate.
• Comfortable taking ownership of sourcing initiatives and working within a collaborative investment environment.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher.

This opportunity should particularly appeal to someone who enjoys the front end of private equity investing: identifying businesses, opening new relationships, and creating investment opportunities that would otherwise not reach the market.
