About the role
The Production Manager runs the fabrication shop, where we build utility and process skids, prefabricated pipe spools and racks, structural skid bases and modular assemblies for data center and power generation projects. The role turns engineered drawings into finished, tested systems that ship on time, often on fast-track schedules and repeatable multi-unit programs.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and schedule shop production across fitting, welding, structural fabrication, assembly and testing to hit ship dates.
- Lead and develop shop supervisors, pipefitters, welders, structural fabricators, assemblers and helpers.
- Set up repeatable, high-throughput production for multi-unit orders (for example, dozens of identical skids for a hyperscale data center).
- Work with engineering and project management to review shop drawings, spool drawings and P&IDs before release to the floor.
- Own shop quality with QA/QC: weld procedures and welder qualifications, fit-up checks, NDE, hydrostatic and pneumatic testing, and dimensional checks.
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), including customer witness tests, and close out punch items before shipment.
- Coordinate material flow with purchasing: pipe, fittings, valves, steel, instruments and major equipment, so long-lead items don't stall the floor.
- Track labor hours and material against job cost budgets; report efficiency, rework and on-time delivery.
- Run a safety-first shop: daily huddles, hot work and rigging safety, crane and forklift practices, PPE and OSHA compliance.
- Plan load-out and shipping of large skids and modules with the logistics team.
- Approve timecards, manage attendance and handle performance reviews and discipline with HR.
Qualifications
- 5+ years in pipe fabrication, skid or module manufacturing, or industrial fabrication, with 2+ years leading crews.
- Strong at reading P&IDs, isometric spool drawings, structural and GA drawings.
- Working knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, FCAW) and piping or structural codes such as ASME B31.3, B31.1 and AWS D1.1.
- Experience with hydro testing, NDE coordination and quality documentation (weld maps, MTRs, test reports).
- Experience scheduling production and managing to job cost budgets.
- OSHA 30 preferred; rigging or crane experience a plus.
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office and ERP, scheduling or timekeeping software.
Work environment
Mostly on the shop floor in an active fabrication facility with welding, cutting, overhead cranes and forklifts. Must stand and walk for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs. and wear required PPE. Overtime as fast-track schedules require.
