About the role
We are looking for software engineers with very strong embedded software experience and expertise. We would like them to support us with embedded software development, including drivers, RTOS (like Zephyr and FreeRTOS), Pigweed, connectivity stacks (USB, BLE, WiFi), and low-level IPs and protocols such as I2C, I3C, SPI, and MIPI (DSI/CSI). They should have experience with new hardware bring-up, knowledge of factory test software enablement and development, and debugging/troubleshooting using JTAG, Lauterbach Trace32, etc.
Ideally they can support having engineers onsite in San Jose, at least in some capacity; I'm okay with having more engineers overseas. I don't think an FAE would match the hands-on expertise described above.
Responsibilities
- Deliver software and technical support related to wearable consumer AR/VR device development, commercialization and production, from design, development, bring-up, factory assembly & manufacturing, test and qualification.
- Bring-up, debugging, troubleshooting and commercializing wearable devices with microcontrollers (MCU), IMU, camera sensors and Qualcomm SoCs.
- Write robust, reliable, efficient, and testable software designed to run in environments that span from RTOS (FreeRTOS, Zephyr), embedded frameworks (pigweed) to Linux kernel, drivers and Android hardware abstraction layer, services and frameworks.
- Optimize software and firmware for power, performance, memory and reliability.
- Collaborate with and co-develop solutions with external partners.
- Communicate clearly and align work within affected teams and with cross-functional and external partners.
- Work with and contribute to open source software.
- Plan and execute prioritized project work independently, managing their own priorities and potentially those of a small team, making appropriately paced progress without supervision.
- Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices. Contribute to the overall efficiency and productivity of the engineering team through code, process enhancements, and software development workflow improvements.
- Leverage AI tools to scale productivity, while holding responsibility for the final work output.
Required skills: Software Engineering, Embedded systems, Real-time operating systems, Debugging/Troubleshooting, System Integration, C++, C, Git, Communication, Partner Management, Consumer electronics
Preferred skills: Augmented Reality, Wearable Devices, Kotlin, Java, Audio Algorithms, Camera Firmware, Graphics and Imaging, Sensors, Manufacturing, User Interface, Microcontrollers, Device Drivers, Android BSP
Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of embedded development and MCU RTOS systems.
- Knowledge of Linux device driver development.
- Knowledge of Android HAL, system software integration and development.
- Proficiency in C / C++ programming languages.
- Experience with version control systems like Git and code review tools like Gerrit.
- Experience with Electrical Schematics review.
- Ability to debug hardware using digital tools.
- Knowledge of bus protocols including I2C, SPI, MIPI.
- Knowledge of embedded multimedia, USB (UVC, UAC, DP) and datacommunication frameworks and protocols such as gRPC.
- Knowledge of sensors such as camera, gyro, acceleration sensors, touch pad, …etc.
- Knowledge of AR/VR graphics and compositor.
- Experience working on consumer electronics, especially XR or AR devices.
