About the role

Why this role exists:
The Associate Engineering Manager - PIM delivers and supports Product Information Management (PIM) capabilities within a pod-based engineering model. Product data serves as a critical input to core merchandise, marketing, and digital processes across Officeworks; this role ensures capability is designed, delivered, proven, and supported by a cohesive team without handoffs between analysis, build, test, and production support.

Operating as a hands-on engineering manager, the role takes accountability for team capability, engineering quality, commercial performance, and people management for the PIM engineering team contributing to delivery pods. By balancing technical execution, such as reviewing business rules, integrations, and architectural approaches, with team leadership and coaching, the role ensures predictable, high-quality engineering outcomes aligned with broader technology platform standards.

Qualifications and work experience:

Essential:

  • Education: Tertiary degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years in enterprise application engineering, including 2+ years leading and developing engineering teams.
  • Platform Expertise: Practical experience configuring and engineering PIM/MDM platforms (preferably Stibo STEP), including data models, business rules (JavaScript), workflows, and Web UI.
  • Data Management Concepts: In-depth understanding of master data management concepts, retail product master data lifecycles, taxonomy design, golden record creation, and attribute governance.
  • Integration Skills: Demonstrated experience designing and building enterprise integrations (APIs, middleware, file interfaces, event-driven flows) connecting PIM to ERP (e.g., SAP) and digital channels.
  • Engineering Practices: Strong knowledge of modern SDLC practices, version control (GitHub/Azure DevOps), CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and code review standards.
  • Continuous Support: Solid understanding of ITIL-aligned incident, problem, and change management principles in production support environments.
  • Leadership and Coaching: Proven track record leading, coaching, and developing engineers within formal management structures.
  • Commercial and Stakeholder Management: Experience managing platform licensing, vendor engagement, and contractor spend within allocated budgets, with proven ability to communicate technical concepts and partner effectively across cross-functional business stakeholders.

Preferred:

  • Industry Experience: Experience operating within retail, e-commerce, or consumer goods environments handling product master data lifecycles.
  • Modern Tooling: Experience working with AI-assisted engineering tools, automated test frameworks, and modern integration middleware.
  • Professional Certifications: Stibo STEP technical certification, Agile delivery credentials, or ITIL certifications.
